Chiffvone: So hey and welcome 🙂 In which part of the world do you live in?

Matteo: Hey, Hey.. I’m living in the beautiful Barcelona, Spain, which is now my home since a bit more than five years…I arrived here in January 2012.

Chiffvone: Nice! Is this your country of birth?

Matteo: Nope, I was born and raised in Cagliari, the capital of the stunning island of Sardinia (Italy)…amazing place, maybe not so big and multicultural as Barcelona but defo one of the places to be if you’re looking for great weather, wicked food and fantastic sea spots.

Chiffvone: Sounds Beautiful! Ok so do tell me which toys do you have in your studio and which one is your fave?

Matteo: I never been an ‘hardware nerd’ maybe because I didn’t have enough money and time to spend on that, hopefully I’ll expand my studio setup soon!

So far I have several MIDI controllers, Maschine Mikro and Maschine MK1, a bass synth Moog Minitaur and a Roland TR8. I’m seriously thinking to buy a Moog Sub Phatty and a MPC drum machine to get that crunchy old school vibe or maybe a Maschine Studio. I would say my favorite is the Roland TR8, for me drums are everything and I love to play with them!!!

My goal is to get an original Roland 909 one day….

Chiffvone: Matteo, how did you even get into DJ’in and producing?

Matteo: I started playing drums/percussions when I was really young like 13/14 with my friends in the streets then I started doing it in some clubs while the house music DJ was spinning his records.

I finally started mixing my music when I was like 21. My first release was in 2010 so I think I entered the production world when I was around 23. Also in 2003/2004 I started do bboying (breakdance) which influenced a lot of my production side. In Sardinia we had and we still have many great talents but the electronic scene is really small and limited (and there’s not much house music culture) so I can say since I moved to Barcelona in 2012 I started discovering my own style. Then the rest came automatically, releasing on several labels made me more known and gave me the chance to have some really cool international gig all around the world.

Chiffvone: Nice! Do you have any tips for people who are starting out?

Matteo: I would say my tips are: be ambitious but humble at the same time; don’t copy and create your own style (which takes years in the studio) Try to understand how the industry works in terms of releases, labels, promotion, contacts, gigs, network, demos etc.

Don’t pretend great things if you have only just started producing just yesterday but try to reach them.

Chiffvone: Good advice! Lets talk production, what is in the pipeline for 2017 like label wise?

Matteo: I’ve just had 2 nice releases on Younan Music and Defined Music. My EP on Defined is already doing really good with a big banner on the Traxsource Tech House home page and featured on Weekend Weapons, Essential Tech and Hype Chart.

Now I’m really looking forward to my EP on Material Series and I have a track forthcoming on Hector Couto’s Roush Label and many other releases.

Chiffvone: Well done! Are there any labels who you think are going to blow big this year?

Matteo: Well I think Javi Lopez’s Defined Music is doing great work, they are signing talented artists and wicked music.

Also Solid Grooves which has been blowing up for a while now and speaking about bigger labels I would say Kaluki Musik and Repopulate Mars.

Chiffvone: If you could play at any club anywhere in the world, which one would you choose and why?

Matteo: It is so hard to chose just one, I can chose 3: The Standard Rooftop in LA, I never been there but from some videos I saw it looks amazing…I love to play in spots like that like with a pool, sunset, great view and sexy girls 🙂

DC10 in Ibiza, we don’t have to say why it’s just part of the electronic music history and Sonar Festival in Barcelona because this is where my home is right now and would be great to play at such a big event with all my friends enjoying my set 🙂

Chiffvone: What do you do to unwind and relax when you aren’t in the studio or DJ’in?

Matteo: I do a lot of workouts or breakdance training and I love to chill with my friends, eating (at home and outside), enjoying the sun in Barcelona, travelling when I can and of course partying.

Chiffvone: What has been the highlight in your career so far?

Matteo: I would say signing on top labels such as Material Series, Roush, Elrow Music and getting great support and feedback from people like Mark Jenkyns, DJ Sneak, Sam Divine, Hector Couto and many more. Speaking about gigs I would mention my set at Spybar in Chicago and Elixir OpenAir Festival in Belgium last July was amazing.

Chiffvone: Can you name your 3 fave producers please?

Matteo: For sure! I can name 3 producers who are really making the difference for me right now: Emmanuel Satie, Jesse Perez and Pawsa. Great skills, originality, hit makers.”

Chiffvone: Any gigs or EPs coming up?

Matteo: As I mentioned before, I can’t wait for my forthcoming tracks on Material and Roush; I’m always working on new beats and hopefully will sign them on some other big labels.

I just had 2 cool gigs in Italy last week! I’m playing here in Barcelona at a great event called The Home (April 9th) and sharing the booth with wAFF 🙂 Then some other regular gigs I have here in clubs like Macarena and City Hall.

Also I’ll be playing at few OFF Sonar showcases during Sonar week in June.

Chiffvone: Great Chat, thank you for joining me in the hot seat and I wish you a great year!

Matteo: My pleasure, thanks for having me and for your support!
