Mixcloud announces new premium service

The current free service will have restrictions

Mixcloud is introducing a new paid service which will place restrictions on the current free service.

The premium service will cost $7.99 a month and will give users unlimited access to all shows and mixes however, it will mean anyone currently using the free service will only be able to listen to the same mix three times in a two week period and they will not be allowed to listen to any mixes that feature more than four tracks by the same artist!

Mixcloud have advised of the changes in a post.

“When you stream any show on Mixcloud, the underlying tracks are identified through audio fingerprinting technology, so that we can pay royalty fees to the relevant rightsholders. Since we started building this platform, the royalty costs we pay for every person who listens for free have steadily risen. Today, the revenue that we make from advertising simply doesn’t come close to covering these costs.”
