Superbooth 2021

If you love your synths, this is a must visit

Superbooth 2021 was always going to be something special for many reasons as a lot has changed since we were last at FEZ back in 2019 before the world got thrown upside down.

For those who have never been to Superbooth, it is an annual trade fair for electronics and musical instruments held in Berlin, Germany over four days with over 100 exhibitors plus a variety of presentations, workshops, live performances and concerts.

Upon entering the ambience was definitely more chilled and notably there were fewer attendees and lots more space in the hallways allowing for social distancing.

The outside area was set within the woodlands and featured a main stage where concerts were taking place throughout the day, an area to sit & take a break with a coffee pop-up plus a Moog circus tent!

The Moog tent was a cross between a festival style pop-up and a backstage chillout room which was a great contrast!

Synths

Next stop was the Dreadbox‘ stand where we got our hands on the ‘Typhon‘ analog portable synthesizer for the first time.

Superbooth 2021 - Typhon Synth

This desktop USB powered Synth has a bold 1980s-style aesthetic with the rotaries ringed in electric blue & yellow colours, an OLED display alongside the knobs and faders. This Synthesizer is small in size but packs a good punch with TWO analogue VCOs, a 4-pole low pass analogue filter, 32-step sequencer, 256 preset memories along with many other features.

The next spot we stumbled across outside was the ‘Waldorf‘ tent and this was one we had on our list to check out so we could get our hands on the ‘M Wavetable Synthesizer‘.

M wavetable Synth

This new hybrid synth takes Waldorf back to its roots as it brings back everything that made the classic Microwave so special but in a modern way. The Waldorf M is described as a “new-generation classic hybrid wavetable synthesizer” and features two oscillator modes, two LFOs, four programmable envelopes, chord mode, 2,048 presets (divided into 16 banks, each with 128 sounds) plus many other features!!

We had a great time at Superbooth and enjoyed the concert on the outdoor stage, I definitely think the outside set-up should stay for next year.
