Interview

Chiffvone: Hey and welcome to Mind Music, please do tell us where in the world are you based and is this where you have grown up?

Skinny: Hello Mind Music, I’m based in Berlin and I come from Caserta, a small town in the

South of Italy.

Chiffvone: For those of our readers who don’t know who you are, please do describe yourself in 3 words?

Skinny: Wow! This is really hard! A Dreamer, friendly and creative.

Chiffvone: Haha so Skinny, why did you choose or start DJ’ing?

Skinny: I grew up with my big brother who was a DJ but then he stopped. After many years (at the end of 2011) I started buying vinyl; just for collection also because I love music and before being a DJ I am a clubber. After 20/30 records I felt the necessity of playing my vinyl so then I bought a pair of 1210’s.

Chiffvone: Nice, I do like Vinyl! Do you produce any music?

Skinny: ‘Producer’ is a big word for me! I haven’t any knowledge about how to play instruments, note and scale, sound engineering and bla bla bla but yes I try to make music! I make music for me, for fun. Doesn’t matter what, my own production or edit of something that I like from movies to video games.

Chiffvone: Ha not every DJ is a producer and not every Producer can DJ 🙂 What can you tell me is your fave thing about the Berlin club scene?

Skinny: Berlin is an amazing city! I like the fact you can choose between lots of different kinds of music, so many amazing venues and a lot of daily events

Chiffvone: It certainly is! Do you get any inspiration from other DJs?

Skinny: Of course! I always pay a lot of attention to technique, musical selection and records. When I find an artist with a big talent, I really get a strong inspiration and this is an improvement for me and for my idea of music.

Chiffvone: If you could pick a label of 2017, which one and why?

Skinny: I would say Giegling, even if I didn’t start to follow the label from the beginning.

Today seems to be an hype concept but I truly think artists of this label have something special.

An example, the strongest one I mean is Dwig’s last album ‘What’s paradise’ for me this is one of the best albums of the year but I also have to say I’m a minimal and micro house addict.

Chiffvone: What is your current DJ set up when you play?

Skinny: My set up has been the same since I started. Two turntables and I love rotary mixer (like DJR400) but I also get a good feeling with Allen & Heath mixer.

What else?! My headphonesmy turntable weights and of course a lot of vinyl (I’ve started bringing a USB because of my own music, promo from friends and also to play something too expensive to get on vinyl).

Chiffvone: I often notice DJs never switch off from music, how do relax away from DJ’in?

Skinny: True story. I hear music 24/7, but I also chill and have fun, cooking, playing PlayStation and spending time with my future wife and my cats.

Chiffvone: Tell me what are your plans for the future?

Skinny: Not in order but I think find a new job because I don’t live making music. Then to get married and of course try to improve my passion for music, I hope by making something relevant!

I would like to thank you for this interview and for the chance you gave me.

Chiffvone: Why thank you for joining me and to Lost & Found for putting you forward, I look forward to seeing you on the Voidance Presents weekly live stream on Saturdays.
